We look at the 2021 Dayton “special election” (primary). Who won, who lost, and what the future may hold.

2021 City of Dayton Candidate Questionnaire

It’s election season again and that means we’re reaching out to candidates with our candidate questionnaires. Our 2021 candidate questionnaire for the City of Dayton elections has been sent out and we’re currently awaiting responses. Should we choose to endorse any candidates, they will have to fill out the questionnaire. All candidates who complete the questionnaire will be invited to a sit-down interview we will broadcast here on the website and on social media.

A Look at Dayton’s Upcoming Elections

It’s local election season! We look at candidates for mayor, city commissioner, and clerk of courts. The commissioner race is particularly crowded this year, while the local Democrats have scared off any intra-party challengers to Jeff Mims in the mayoral race. For the clerk position, you have no choice, but it’s important to highlight that fact.

Local Election Outcomes Highlight an Inefficient and Broken System

Some thoughts on the 2020 election. We look at levy issues for schools and roads, how our endorsed candidates fared, and the odd nature of unopposed elections. Looking to the future, we hope that new elected officials will push for change in the Dayton area.

Zach Dickerson: Endorsed by Reconstructing Dayton

We interviewed Zach Dickerson, candidate for Montgomery County Clerk of Courts. Based on our interview, research, and other interactions with Zach, we feel confident that he would make for a better Clerk than incumbent Mike Foley. We also believe that he would be more receptive to big ideas that would make the Clerk’s office run more efficiently and save taxpayers money. Therefore, we will be endorsing Zach Dickerson for Montgomery County’s Clerk of Courts.

An Interview with Bob Matthews

We interview Bob Matthews, a candidate for County Commissioner looking to unseat incumbent Debbie Lieberman.

Where Do Local Candidates Stand?

We have sent out a questionnaire to candidates who will appear on the ballots in Montgomery County. In the upcoming weeks we will share their answers and provide endorsements.

An Interview with David Brannon

We sat down and interviewed David Brannon, candidate for Montgomery County Probate court judge. David talked about some key initiatives he plans to implement as probate judge, which is refreshing to hear from a judicial candidate. He also discussed some issues that are important to Reconstructing Dayton, such as consolidating the municipal courts in Montgomery County and the odd partisan structure of judicial races. We’re not endorsing any judicial candidates, but we do think you should give this article a read before committing to either Arvin Miller or David Brannon.

John McManus: Endorsed by Reconstructing Dayton

After a lengthy interview with John McManus, Reconstructing Dayton is proud to endorse him for Montgomery County Treasurer. McManus is committed to transparency and fighting corruption, two things that are very important to us at Reconstructing Dayton. Check out the full interview.
